Reflect on how your cultural heritage shapes your daily expectations, inspired by "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Prompt response: From my cultural heritage my daily expectations are to clean up after myself, around the house and fix any minor issues. Similar to today's poem my mother taught me how to clean around the house and make sure I swept correctly, cleaned dishes the right way and clean the bathroom thoroughly. It's also expected in my culture to fix any issue around the house like a plumbing issue, installing any furniture, and any heavy lifting. My father has taught me how to do a lot of handy man work and proper self grooming.

Summary: Today in class I read "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.

Reflection: In class I learned that some gender roles are passed down and taught by influence while others have to be forced. I hope that later in my life I can be an influence and teach certain roles instead of having to be aggressive or need for name calling.

Write about a dream that felt real.

You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

Reflect on a time when you noticed someone being treated unfairly or saw a situation that didn’t seem right. How does this experience connect to the emotions or ideas expressed in one or both poems?
