Cities can also be an important part of a person’s cultural identity, shaping their values, experiences, and way of life. Think of a movie or TV show that changed the way you see a specific city. How was that city and its culture portrayed, and did it present a full picture or a “single story”? Explain how this portrayal could influence how people view those who live there.

Prompt Response: South Beach Tow made me think people in Miami were either faking their wealth or terrible at parking. This show was definitely a single sided story. Throughout the whole show a towing crew is followed while working. Many of the people they would tow looked very rich or were the average person. Every person though would either be in a no parking zone or be late on car payments. This can make people think Miami is a fake it until you make it city. People would show off money they do not have and rich people would feel entitled to whichever parking spot they would like.

Summary: Today in class we started a new group project.

Reflection: The project is a presentation of a single sided story of a specific group of people. My group chose rural white Americans.

Write about a dream that felt real.

You are working on your storymap which is reflection on your past. Thinking about your future, as you graduate high school, what role does the Atlanta metro area play in your life? Do you plan to stay or move away? Explain your reasoning.

Reflect on a time when you noticed someone being treated unfairly or saw a situation that didn’t seem right. How does this experience connect to the emotions or ideas expressed in one or both poems?
