Discuss a moment in your own life when something you believed in turned out to be different than what you imagined. How did this realization shape your identity or worldview?

Prompt response: I believed that everyone could be helped with enough support and that they would be perfectly fine afterwards. Not everyone wants to be helped. I realized this when an old friend of mine was going through a very rough relationship. They had all types of issues going on. I kept providing ways of dealing with their situation but they never took my advice. I soon came to realize that they didn’t want help. The best help I could give them was letting them learn on their own without interfering. That friend eventually did learn and moved on. I too learned that day. Summary: Today in class we had to make a poem with phrases from letters 71-75. Reflection: Making the poem was a bit more difficult than I thought. The hard part was figuring out which phrases would fit with the previous one to give the poem meaning and not just be nonsense.

Describe what you would think, say, and do, and how this discovery would reshape how you see Mister and yourself. Reflect on why this moment would matter so much and how it would change your next choices.

Prompt Response:  Dear God, I found my sister’s letters in Mr.      car. I can believe he would keep my sister from me. He know she my only hope. Mr.    is a sad miserable man. No he a monster not a man. I’m going to put my hand on him like Sofia do to Harpo. I going to make Mr.   feel what I’ve felt ever since I’ve been here. This letter would give Celie the rage to possibly hurt Albert. If she were to do so she would have the confidence and courage to stand up for herself and not let mister have power over her. Celie would need to have a plan on what to do after giving Albert a piece of her mind. She could possibly run away and maybe receive a bit of help from Shug.  Summary: Today in class we read pages 61-65. Reflection: Reading about Nettie’s missionary trip to Africa is very interesting and new to me as the reader. I’ve always heard about missionaries in historical text but reading how it could possibly have been is very interesting es...

Write about a relationship in your life that changed over time as you grew older or more aware. What made the dynamic shift, and how did your understanding of that person evolve?

Prompt Response: My relationship with my cousin went from being competitive and constant fighting to being a role model and understanding. My cousin had a very rough situation at home and her behavior was affected, so getting along was hard at times. Now that we’re both older and have a better understanding of each other we get along like siblings. I try my hardest to be a supportive and better role model for her.  Summary: Today in class we read pages 51-60. Reflection: Today’s ready was very interesting especially seeing how far and yet so close Nettie and Celie were to each other. And now seeing Nettie’s situation after leaving mister’s house was very empowering in the way that Nettie never let herself get into a terrible situation again.

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response: Over the break my family had hosted Thanksgiving for the first time in years. It was chaotic! Not only did we deep clean the whole house, we had to prep for more food than 8 people. At the end everything turned out pretty great. My cousins had brought a lot of dessert which were amazing and delicious. Overall my thanksgiving break was pretty good, spending time with my family is something I’m always grateful for. Summary: Today in class we read pages 46-50. Reflection: Pages 46-50 had a very descriptive scene which was very crazy to read. I had never read a book with such detail and graphic material which is why it was shocking to see.
